From October 5th to November 14th, the Jules Romains Museum in Saint Julien Chapteuil hosts the exhibition "Louise Paints…" in homage to Louise Delorme. This internationally renowned artist grew up in the Haute-Loire region and drew her inspiration from the landscapes, objects, and people of the Velay. This exhibition will be a wonderful opportunity to (re)discover her works.

Who was Louise Delorme?
Louise Delorme was a renowned painter, born in Haute-Loire in 1928 and raised in Noustoulet, in the commune of Saint Pierre Eynac. In 1948, she went to Paris to study painting at the Beaux-Arts and at the Henri Goetz Academy.

In 1950, she exhibited for the first time in the Velay region at Crozatier museumThis was followed by... thirty years of Parisian career punctuated by a constant daily workload and exhibitions in major international galleries (Quebec, New York, and Germany). Haute-LoirShe never stayed far from his sight and she made many trips back and forth which allowed her to find her roots.
Her talent and dedication to her work impressed the art world. Jules Romains , a native of Saint Julien Chapteuil and a member of the French Academy, encouraged her throughout her career. Towards the end of her career, back in her childhood home of Noustoulet, she continued her artistic exploration and exhibitions. Louise Delorme died on November 25, 2023, at the age of 95.
Figurative art and abstraction as key themes
Louise Delorme is a champion of the object without being enslaved by the subject matter she uses. She incorporates minimalist and familiar objects, bunches of broom, her house, and the surrounding countryside into her paintings. Her painting is an exploration; it is material and tactile, playing with the thickness of the paint.
Cécile Crespy, Jules Romains Museum

A renowned artist of modern art , Louise Delorme transcribes in her painting the encounter of two universes, the figurative and the abstract , through paintings that give life to materials, pieces of wood, everyday objects…but also characters that are dear to the history of Puy-en-Velay, such as the Black Virgin.
