Monistrol d'Allier

The French Canoe-Kayak and Paddle Sports Federation (FFCK) has chosen the Velay region and the Allier Gorges for the French Downhill Championship, which will take place from July 14 to 18, 2025. Between Prades and Monistrol d'Allier, the best French champions will be there, with 350 athletes for four days of activities, including two days of competitions.

It is an event for an entire territory and more particularly the one located between Monistrol-d'Allier and Prades, municipalities located respectively in the Puy-en-Velay urban community and that of the banks of the Haut-Allier.

The Allier River meets the various specifications for such an organization and promises a spectacular experience with highly technical rapids. With nearly €450 in direct economic benefits for the region, this event helps support the momentum surrounding events held in the Puy-en-Velay metropolitan area.

The trials

Individual races which has club team races will be organized. The individual races known as “classics” take place in a single time trial on a course between Monistrol d'Allier and Prades, estimated at 25 minutes!

There will be around 300 boats for the classic races and around 80 teams!

The event will also provide publicity for the tourist destination. As such, the Allier Gorges are using this event to assert their positioning through whitewater sports, with playgrounds that are second to none compared to other sites. It's a fantastic tourist postcard in the heart of summer that should not only help strengthen the destination's image but also offer tourists and locals a top-notch show.
