The former Savelon pastry shop, located at 1 rue Crozatier in Le Puy-en-Velay, has been transformed into a brand new business. SuKrésalé is a gourmet grocery store offering biscuits, olive oils, pasta, condiments, hot sauces, spreads, jams, as well as syrups, wines, beers, and local liqueurs. The shop is run by Inès Michel and was founded by Marc and Charles Rousset, along with Mélodie Savel.

What made you want to open this business?

Marc Rousset: I work with my brother Charles at the L'Antrepôt wine shop in Brives-Charensac, where Mélodie Savel manages the grocery section. She has approached numerous suppliers and expanded the range of products sold over time. To meet consistent demand, the three of us decided to join forces and open a... deli, in order to develop our grocery business. We decided to do it at Puy-en-Velay, because we are attached to our city and the location of the shop is ideal in a very busy area.

What types of products can be found there? ?

Inès Michel: Of course, there are local products. For example, we have Polignac mustardWe offer a wide selection of products, including pasta from Ferme Archer, fruit-rich jams from La Pertuisienne, and honey from Ruchers du Mézenc. Our wine selection also features spirits such as La Vertueuse and Pagès verbena liqueurs. We carry local beers like those from Motueka, as well as products from other regions of France, like popcorn from Normandy, and a superb range of olive oils from La Magnanerie, located on the border of the Ardèche and Lozère regions, which has won awards for best blend in the world and best organic olive oil in the world. We also have mezze and spreads from the Greek company Kalios.

Is product quality the primary focus?

Inès Michel: Yes! Mélodie has done a lot of work selecting products in the cellar. We rely on that, and we also go with our gut feeling. For example, Marc brought back French gherkins from Maison Marc. As for me, the concept of popcorn in different flavors is a nice change for happy hour! We're interested in local producers, but also in excellent products from France and elsewhere.

Are tastings offered on site?

Marc Rousset: Yes. We offer spontaneous tastings of our products, particularly on Saturdays during the market. You can taste, for example, our olive oils.

Who are you targeting?

Marc Rousset: Epicureans in the broadest sense! In fact, everyone who appreciates quality products. We want to stand out from standard, mass-produced goods.
