This day of discovery begins with the guided tour of La Chaise-Dieu.
10am: Welcome by a tour guide to visit the imposing St Robert abbey church with its choir decorated with 144 stalls surrounding the tomb of Pope Clement VI, its 15th century mural “the dance of death” and its magnificent baroque organ case. Then you will discover the fascinating history of its former Benedictine abbey by visiting the Gothic cloister, the Notre Dame du Collège Chapel housing the 14 Flemish tapestries from the 16th century, a true national treasure that has been fully restored and the famous 17th century echo room with its astonishing acoustics…
12 p.m.: Local meal in a Casadéen restaurant (1/4 of wine and coffee included)
In the afternoon, you will board the Picasso train and follow the small tourist line which overlooks the Viallard viaduct above the Senouire before descending through the gorges to reach the Dore valley and the town of Ambert …
13:45 p.m.: Meet at La Chaise-Dieu station and board the train.
16 p.m.: Visit to the Maison de la Fourme d’Ambert to discover an AOC cheese, an element of heritage, culture and the local economy… Explanations on its traditional and contemporary production with a visit to the maturing cellar
