Mont Bar

Mont Bar is a unique volcano in Europe, it is indeed the only volcano of the Strombolian type which shelters a peat bog in its crater.
Strombolian volcano. Dominating from its height of 1167 meters the medieval town of Allègre, this very young volcano (800 years old all the same) is a unique case in France due to the existence, in its crater, of a peat bog.
Hike: 2 hours return, 3 km, 160 m drop. Bring suitable shoes (steep path). Four site interpretation desks installed in the crater. Parking: Allègre multipurpose room.
