Salle de L'Echo
The echo room is covered with a groined vault, decorated with wall paintings with plant motifs and rosettes, treated in grisaille. If the function of this room is unknown, what makes its charm is its acoustic singularity.
The echo room is open to visitors only as part of the paying tour of the Abbey of La Chaise-Dieu.
Far from the phenomenon of the echo produced by the repetition of a sound, it is rather a question here of the way in which a person who whispers facing a corner of this room, is heard very distinctly by another person, positioned facing the opposite corner. Will resulting from a precise calculation, on the part of the architects, or fruit of chance, if not of the coincidence linked to the layout of the places? For the moment no one knows how to explain, what nevertheless enchants everyone and makes this room a place with a disturbing experience.

From April 4th to June 30th and from September 22nd to November 1st: Tuesday to Sunday, 1:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Ticket office closes 1 hour and 30 minutes before the site closes.
From July 1st to September 18th: daily from 10am to 7pm. Ticket office closes 1 hour 30 minutes before site closing time.
September 19-20, European Heritage Days 2026: Site open from 10 AM to 6 PM
