The Pomarat museum, located in the former Chapel of the Pénitents in Saint-Paulien, reveals the wealth of the ancient Gallo-Roman capital of Velay. Suitable for families, it offers a fun journey through time through the eyes of an archaeologist.
The discovery of the remains from the soil of the ancient capital of the Vellavi people and the collections is followed by a tour of the city. Saint-Paulien has survived the ages and experienced many metamorphoses.
From the Gallic oppidum to the medieval city, via the Gallo-Roman capital of Velay, the Pomarat Museum offers you a journey through time through the eyes of an archaeologist who deciphers the city's remains for you. The museum becomes a construction site, a place of wasteland, treasures, maps, and excavations.
Very ancient objects have been unearthed: a mosaic, amphorae, tools, stones, and jewelry. These are our clues. Let the investigation begin. In July and August, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 15 p.m. to 17 p.m., last admission 1 hour before closing. Out of season, consult the Saint-Paulien town hall.
