Le Puy-en-Velay, Patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO

Located to the south-east of the Massif Central, starting point of the “Via Podiensis” towards Saint-Jacques of Compostela, Puy en Velay is above all an exceptional site. Preserved from the ravages of time, the city has many surprises in store for visitors.
The town of Puy en Velay is set in a green setting where water and fire have sculpted astonishing natural settings and where man has made the beauty of art triumph. The Upper Town of Puy-en-Velay contains many historical and architectural treasures in its protected area: in addition to the imposing cathedral built on the side of Mont Anis and classified by UNESCO, its cloister is worth a visit. It is one of the most beautiful and best preserved Romanesque cloisters in Europe and dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. European capital of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, the city offers pilgrims with The Camino, a reception and information center as well as a museum-tour on this theme.
