Le Pont Eiffel

In 1887, the Eiffel company obtained the contract for the construction of the bridge over the Allier. The metal trellis Eiffel bridge was finally built between 1887-1888, just after the Garabit Viaduct and the frame of the Statue of Liberty in New York.
Thanks to the construction of the railway line, Monistrol d'Allier experienced exceptional growth. Hundreds of workers came to set up to carry out a project which required real technical prowess given the configuration of the premises. Thus, the train allows the transport of materials, otherwise impossible in this mountainous area, considered dangerous and very isolated at the time.
In 1933, the bridge was doubled as a pedestrian bridge. It was restored in the 2000s to ensure local traffic.
