Eglise Saint-Pierre

XNUMXth century Gothic church decorated with a small tower and a bell tower, chapel of a priory belonging to the abbey of La Chaise-Dieu. .
The first mention of Malvières dates from 1067. Until 1789, Malvières belonged to the province of Auvergne, to the diocese of Clermont and to the archpriest of Livradois. The territory was given to Robert Turlande by the lords of Beaumont when his community was founded. The abbot was represented there by a monk. From 1277, at the latest, the priory was united with the infirmary of La Chaise-Dieu, the nurse appointing a priest. The priory provided the nurse with medicinal plants, including mallows, from which the name Malvières comes. In the XNUMXth century, the nurse was no longer prior and Malvières returned to the monastic community. The Revolution put an end to the attachment to La Chaise-Dieu and the diocese of Clermont but left the parish in place.

The church was built at the end of the Middle Ages, with the same techniques and in the same style as the abbey. The nave is divided into two bays preceding the choir composed of a pentagonal apse. Inside, the trefoiled tracery of the choir evokes the mother abbey. The north chapel is dedicated to the Virgin, represented by a gilded wooden statue, and the south chapel to Saint Joseph. The sacristy, attached to the apse, was built in 1850. The bell tower was rebuilt in 1887 and equipped with two bells. At the south-east corner of the south chapel a stair turret provides access to the roofs.
