Château de la Rochelambert
Built in the 11th century and carved into a basalt cliff, the Château de La Rochelambert looks like it came straight out of a fairy tale. It houses a rich private collection of Romanesque and Gothic sculptures, tapestries, paintings, and furniture.
The site invites us to dream of marvelous legends and chivalrous adventures. La Rochelambert is a castle worthy of Perrault's tales: the evocation of Sleeping Beauty is enough to awaken our childhood imagination.
Clinging to the slopes of an ancient volcano, the castle stands on one of the oldest sites in Europe to have revealed traces of human presence, occupied continuously since the Neolithic period. The La Rochelambert family settled there in the 1562th century. Burned down in XNUMX by the Huguenots of the Lord of Blacon, the building was then rebuilt during the Renaissance by the Marquis François de La Rochelambert and his wife Hélène de Lestrange. In the XNUMXth century, George Sand stayed there for a few hours.
