Château de Coubon
The castle offers an example of 19th century architecture, halfway between Viollet-Le-Duc and Gustave Eiffel. It was yesterday and it's already so far away… All the atmosphere of a 19th century house.
Built in a neo-medieval style, it boasts a remarkably cohesive and complete late 19th-century decor. The Château de Coubon was constructed in 1887 by Jean-Bélisaire Moreau, a prominent architect from the Bourbonnais region. It is the only château in the Haute-Loire department built by this architect. From a modest 18th-century noble residence, Moreau created a more spacious home in the neo-medieval, here eclectic, architectural style he frequently employed.
What makes the most obvious interest of this residence is the interior layout, designed at the same time by Moreau, which offers an example of very homogeneous and complete decoration from the end of the 19th century with, in particular, the use of wood. of various species in the reception rooms on the ground floor.
The visit also includes the chapel and the English park.
The castle was included in the Supplementary Inventory of Historic Monuments in 2019.
