Chapelle des Reliques

Access to the chapel of relics is via the north aisle of the cathedral. This room occupies one of the upper floors of the so-called “machicolation” building built in the 12th century and which was the Chapter library.
You can admire in the chapel a fresco on the Liberal Arts which dates from the 15th century
During its restoration in the 19th century, Prosper Mérimée discovered the fresco incomplete, 4 arts instead of 7: grammar, logic, rhetoric and music.
The choir of the chapel is adorned with a beautiful golden altarpiece from the 17th century and on which rests a copy of the black virgin sculpted by Philippe Kaeppelin according to the indications provided by the geologist Faugeas de Saint-Fons. The original was burned on June 8, 1794 by revolutionaries.
