Former monks' refectory built in the XNUMXth century, it was transformed into a chapel at the beginning of the XNUMXth century by the brotherhood of the White Penitents. It has since been used as a place of permanent meditation and for religious services in winter.
It was built under the abbey of Jacques de Saint-Nectaire, whose arms can be seen on the keystones. On the gallery, symbols of the passion, used every Good Friday in the XNUMXth century for the ceremony of the Passion, are displayed.
In 2012, the chapel was restored and consolidated.
A unique Stations of the Cross painted by Robert Falcucci has adorned the walls of the chapel since 1980.
There is no access without stairs for the Chapel of the Penitents. Whatever the route, there are always two to three steps if not more. For less steep access, contact the brothers of St Jean.
