Via ferrata, zip lines, Himalayan footbridges... New activities are available for thrill-seekers at the new Accro Roc park in Monistrol-d'Allier. It was recently launched by Hervé PICHON and his team (Tonic Aventure). For those who aren't afraid of heights, it offers breathtaking views of the heart of the Allier Gorges.

You must be at least 1m tall to be able to do the proposed course.

What is the concept of this new park?

Picasa

Hervé Pichon: We wanted to combine the activities of the treetop adventure park, which is often a continuous line, with the via ferrata, which allows you to climb a cliff using various facilities available to participants. People starting from the treetop adventure park cannot break away, which is important for safety. This allows us to offer an additional activity in Monistrol-d'Allier, where a number of outdoor activities are already offered.

What is the proposed route?

Hervé Pichon: We leave from the Tonic Aventure base and climb Bernard Rock. It's a rock right in the middle of the river. There are zip lines and Himalayan footbridges. We climb between 80 and 90 meters high. When we reach the summit, it offers a magnificent view of the Sugar Loaf Mountain, and the beach, for those who know the area. You shouldn't be afraid of heights, but it's not very physically challenging. For safety reasons, you must be at least 1m tall to complete the proposed route. For the moment, we offer departures every hour. It takes an hour and a half to complete the entire route.

Is this a park that complements existing activities?

Hervé Pichon: This is an opportunity to offer a new activity without having to transport people, and without constraints on the river, because two or three years ago we had water shortages on the Allier. This allows us to offer an alternative activity to rafting that can be practiced at the base. And then, it's a great showcase of what we offer here because Accro Roc is a fairly rare discipline in France. It proves that we can do lots of things here, and that there's no need to rush to the Alps to practice this kind of activity.
