Saison culturelle – Requiem(s), candle concert
Friday March 20 at 20:30 p.m.
Théâtre Place du Breuil 43000 Le Puy-en-Velay
Classical music concert. Requiem(s), dialogue between heaven and earth.
Mozart's Requiem and Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ on the Cross: two works with obvious connections, starting with the connection between the two, rooted in the in-between dialogue between human and divine, between life and death, between heaven and earth. Perhaps because these two composers had a mutual admiration for each other, it was with this same logic that the Debussy Quartet wished to imagine this project alongside director Louise Moaty.
These two major works each followed the opposite path to the other: first a piece for quartet from 1787 which became an oratorio with choir in 1795, then a Requiem for choir, soloists and orchestra which became a quartet in 1802: two pieces with an eminently meditative character and a very similar inner strength.
One from the hand of the master himself, the other from that of a genius admirer. Never performed together, yet the evidence leaps out at you when you listen to them: at once so close in their message and yet so different and complementary in their writing.
The Debussy Quartet is supported by the Ministry of Culture (DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region, and the City of Lyon. It is supported by the Lyon Metropolitan Area, SPEDIDAM, and SG Auvergne Rhône Alpes.
