Angèle, performed by the Cartoun Sardines Théâtre Company, is a play based on the film by Marcel Pagnol and the novel by Jean Giono “Un de Baumugnes”.
Angèle, the daughter of peasants, lives with her parents on a Provençal farm, La Douloire, isolated at the bottom of a valley. She is secretly in love with Albin, a young peasant. But he is slow to declare his love.
One day, Angèle is seduced by Louis, a passing bad boy who drags her to Marseille, the big city, and prostitutes her. Saturnin, the brave and devoted farmhand, sets out to find her. He finds her living in a modest room and brings her back to La Douloire with a "bastard."
The father agrees to take them in, but to save the family's honor, he locks them away in a cellar. But Saturnin watches over them...
