Sacrée Musique – Alkymia

At the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries, Sucre, still called La Plata, was one of the most important cities in the Spanish Viceroyalty of Upper Peru. The program "Sweets: Y se va la segunda!" by the Alkymia Ensemble, testifies to the exceptional place of music and dance in the festivities where sacred and pagan coexist, in the spirit of a colorful and flamboyant Bolivian celebration. A specialist in traditional South American music, choirmaster Mariana Delagadillo Espinoza carried out fascinating research in the archives of the city of Sucre, Bolivia, to highlight all the richness of this music with multiple influences, in this candlelit evening in the magnificent Puy Cathedral.
