Via Allier à vélo – Étape 16 – Saint-Privat-d'Allier > Le Pont d'Alleyras
The Via Allier itinerary here explores the heart of the Allier gorges. You cycle over the most inaccessible and narrow section of the river.
This true haven of peace where fauna and flora are kings can be glimpsed between two gaps along the road. You reach the banks of the Allier by descending to Pont-d'Alleyras. The view emerges on the reservoir of the Poutès dam, dominated by the Château de la Beaume. It's time to cool off at the water's edge, a good climb awaits you at the next stage.
The route:
From Saint-Privat-d'Allier to Pont-d'Alleyras, you follow the D40 exclusively. This small, narrow and winding road, rarely flat, offers beautiful views, but requires good physical condition. The often technical and tricky descents require vigilance and control. Near the finish of the stage, the road softens as it reaches the edge of the river.
