The Chaise-Dieu

PR620 Le Serpent d'or

The Golden Serpent is a circuit for everyone. A true concentrate of history, legends and nature, sometimes domesticated, sometimes virgin, all assembled for the pleasure of all the senses.
Take the wide dirt road to the left of the access road to the Saint-Claude signal. At the fork, an explanatory panel marks the start of the discovery trail. First between cultivated land and pastures, the path soon reaches the woods. Reach a road.
Follow it to the right until the crossroads.
Use the grassy path on the left which enters the Breuil national forest. At the intersection, go right for about 150 m to discover a narrow path on the left.
Take this path which winds between the trees to the banks of the Breuil pond. Then follow the bank on the right and reach a small road.
Cross it and find the path which enters the woods again. Cross over the Senouire using a footbridge. The path crosses a forest road and continues under the trees. After a steep path, come out on a perpendicular path.
Go left. The path curves to the right, then emerges into a clearing.
Turn right at the edge, then re-enter the woods. Pass near an old grain granary of the abbey and soon return to the starting point.
