PR225 Les Bois Noirs
A circuit which takes height on the wooded slopes of the Loire gorges, with beautiful panoramas of the castle of Lavoûte-Polignac, the city of Puy-en-Velay to the south and the Emblavez valley to the north.
Take the bridge to cross the Loire. Turn left at the traffic lights and immediately take the alley on the right.
At the junction, continue straight on rue du Lavoir, then walk alongside the cemetery. Go around it and continue left. The path continues en route, reaching a crossroads.
Go up to the right on the wide sandy path. After the reservoir, turn right and reach a fork. Go left and follow the edge. Enter the forest and follow the path which climbs steeply.
Almost at the top, the path widens. Leave it for a path on the right and gradually emerge from the woods. Come out onto a wide path and follow it to the right. At the intersection, go left and enter Chassaure.
Take the road on the right. Immediately, at the fork, continue left. The road turns into a wide path. Follow it straight ahead. At the houses, continue again on this path. Further down, at the intersection, turn right.
At the crossroads, climb to the right (straight ahead, Saint-Quentin site and panorama of the Loire gorges, return trip 20 min). On the way up, stay left twice. Join the road and turn left for 370 m. Leave it for a path on the left. Go down and join Brestilhac. In the hamlet, turn right onto the road and follow it for 300 m. Take the path which continues straight ahead.
At the fork, continue with your left hand. At the cross, continue straight ahead. Do the same at the next junction. Start the descent into the woods and stay on the main path until the bottom. Go left and enter Lavoûte-sur-Loire via Chemin du Bois-Noir then via Rue de la Maternelle.
2 Turn left to join the D 7. Take it on the left then turn right to cross the bridge over the Loire and reach the start.
