Etape GR65 Le Puy-en-Velay – Saint-Privat-d'Allier
The famous pilgrimage of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, leaves for the most famous route of Puy-en-Velay. You will tread the cobblestones that hundreds of thousands of pilgrims have crossed before you to reach Spain.
Possibility of starting the GR from the Cathedral (over 625m), follow the bronze shells on the ground.
Departure from the street Saint-Jacques. Take rue des Capucins. Continue straight ahead until you reach rue de Compostelle.
Follow rue de Compostelle until the stadium. Take the developed dirt road on the right which meets the road 200 m further. Follow the latter on the right to continue climbing.
At the high point, leave the road for the wide stony path on the left which leads to a crossroads marked by a cross [O> Jalasset cross dated 1621 of which only the shaft remains], pass to the right of this monument.
The GR® reaches the D 589; cut it and take the gravelled dirt road opposite, which leads to a crossroads. Follow the path on the left which becomes tarmac at the first houses of La Roche (870 m).
The GR® 65 crosses the D 589 and goes around La Roche via a cornice path above the Gazelle ravine, which then continues on the ridge line.
The GR® 65 heads to the right, crosses a small wood, drops down to the La Roche stream to cross it a little further upstream and goes up on its right bank to Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon (908 m).
At the exit of Saint-Christophe-sur-Dolaizon, after the castle, take a small road on the right towards Tallode.
Continue to Liac. The path continues on a stony base. Cross the hamlet of Lic then take the path on the right. A little further on, at an intersection, turn left, then reach the crossroads with a tarmac path. Continue straight (west) until the entrance to Ramourouscle.
Take the D 621 on the right. In the center of the village, turn left. Take a paved path which passes in front of the Saint-Roch chapel.n The GR® thus reaches Montbonnet (1 m).
The GR® 65 crosses Montbonnet and passes the Croix des Pèlerins. Continue as far as the D 589. Take the D 589 on the left for 150 m. Take the path on the right which crosses a narrow plateau then passes near the ruins of the Baraque. When the path splits, follow the left branch which climbs then enters the woods. At the next fork, turn right. Come out on a perpendicular path. Follow it to the left until you reach Lac de l'OEuf.
Walk along Lac de l'OEuf until you reach the road. Follow this forest road to the left then turn right onto a grassy path going down to the D 589. Cut it. Take the road opposite leading to the hamlet of Chier.
Come out into the coudert [O> local name designating a small communal or sectional meadow located in a hamlet or in the immediate vicinity of it]. At the exit of the hamlet, turn right (north-west) onto a path. Follow it for 700 m. Turn left onto another stony path between two walls, cross a moor dotted with pine trees.
Cross the Rouchoux stream to arrive at the Piquemeule mill and farm. The GR® joins the D 589 at the first houses of Saint-Privat-d'Allier (890 m).
