Furnished tourist accommodation is available for rental at Place Saint-Georges, in Puy-en-Velay, opposite the Grand Séminaire, at the foot of the statue of Notre-Dame-de-France. They were completely renovated by three couples of friends, in a building steeped in history dating from the 16th century. They have been decorated in a way that combines the old with the modern and offers guests a cozy, completely different atmosphere on the heights of the city.

What made you want to offer these furnished apartments?

Aurore Bouchet: In fact, we are three couples passionate about the history of the neighborhood and history in general. This is the case for my husband Julien, myself and our friends Grégory, Cécile, Cédric and Stéphanie. We wanted to highlight the heritage and make it accessible to all, through the restoration of the building in which we have fitted out tourist accommodation.

What are the particularities of the house they are in?

It is a 13th century house, with parquet floors from that period, wall paintings and ceilings from the 16th century. There is also the Saint-Georges Gate which dates from the 13th century and which separates the two buildings in which the furnished accommodation was made, via a wooden stairwell which dates from the 16th century and is in Renaissance style. believe.

Was the renovation work extensive?

Yes. They started about two years ago and follow those carried out since 1976 by the former owners Jean-Charles and Claudine Rey, also passionate about history. We started practically from scratch for certain apartments because we had to redo the electricity and plumbing. We put lime back on the walls. Each time, we called on local contractors. We tried to keep the authentic side and we came to an agreement with the architect of the buildings of France. We also renovated the parquet floors and redid everything in terms of painting.

What are the particularities of these furnished accommodations?

There are 6 planned in total, but to date, 4 are completely renovated and available for rental. There are three F2s and a loft. All have a kitchen area and a bathroom. They all have a particular theme. The loft is called the Saint-Georges, since it is the one where we have the statue of the first bishop of Velay on the facade.

We have an apartment that we named The door of the ages, which offers a unique view of the Saint-Georges Gate, another is called The bird house, with patterns that nod to birds, a piece of furniture in the shape of a tree, and even a light fixture placed in a cage. And then there is The Anise Belvedere which offers a very beautiful view of the town of Puy-en-Velay.
