The Crozatier museum is one of the largest encyclopedic museums in France, in the heart of the Henri Vinay garden in Puy-en-Velay. Come admire rare and moving works, understand the landscapes marked by volcanism, measure yourself against centuries and millennia to share emotions with your family. Films, games, models, accessible to all, allow you to learn while having fun to take a different look at the collections. Between the various permanent galleries but also the temporary exhibitions, the Crozatier museum invites discovery in an enchanting setting.

The historical gallery
from Prehistory to the Renaissance
The historical gallery presents the major milestones of regional history, from Prehistory to the Renaissance. It also offers collections of Egyptology and antiquities from the Mediterranean basin. The pieces gathered in the room of the ancient Mediterranean world come from trips of local notables to the Orient in the 19e century and State deposits including key works such as Egyptian coffins and their mummies as well as Vases from Magna Graecia representative of the diversity of ancient ceramic production.
The gallery also unveils exceptional collections on Prehistory in Haute-Loire, the Gallo Roman world, a medieval lapidary with remains and architectural elements of civil and religious buildings in Velay.

The spaces dedicated to the lace gallery give pride of place to the traditions of the territory with key works linked to religious art and in particular its statuettes of the Black Madonna. The lace-making know-how of course the collections of lace from Puy-en-Velay are presented. The context of local lace manufacturing is evoked by numerous objects. Local lace is accompanied by pieces from other European centers.

The fine arts gallery exhibits numerous paintings, sculptures and graphic arts from the 15th century to the dawn of the 20th century. The collection offers a panorama of European painting, from the Renaissance to the beginning of the 20th century

paleontology and volcanism on the program
The science gallery is interested in paleontology departmental, volcanism, mineralogy, zoology and mechanical sciences.
The paleontology collections delight visitors because the fossils on display come from sites in Haute-Loire, particularly rich and well-known since the mid-19th century. The Auvergne Mastodon is an emblematic animal of the faunas present in our regions 3 million years ago A life-size replica of this Mastodon gives a spectacular side to the museum's paleontological collection.




COUNTRY OF ART AND HISTORY
The Puy-en-Velay urban community owns the Pays d’Art et d’Histoire label. Label awarded by the Ministry of Culture to local authorities concerned about their heritage. A real sign of recognition of preservation, animation and awareness-raising actions.

Who was Charles Crozatier?
Charles Crozatier was an illustrious foundry-engraver of the 1868th century who gave his name to the Crozatier Museum. He bequeathed a significant part of his fortune to the City of Puy-en-Velay which allowed the expansion of the museum in XNUMX and the creation of the facade which today overlooks the Henri Vinay garden.
