In the great historical tradition of luthiers of the past, I make instruments according to period plans and strive to revive the prestige of the harpsichord, paying particular attention to the musicality of my creations.
The Bertrand family has been on our volcanic lands of Velay since
Seventeenth century. Installed in the family house of the small village of
Vialette, not far from Saint-Paulien, Frédéric Bertrand exercises the
profession… no, the passion, better still, the art, of harpsichord maker.
After studying at the Beaux-Arts in Saint-Etienne and a professorship
of applied arts in Haute-Marne, Frédéric opened a career in
harpsichord maker and sets up his workshop in the old sheepfold
family. He participates in the establishment of major music festivals
renowned as that of La Chaise Dieu or that of Vivarais-Lignon
at Chambon-sur-Lignon.
